Hudson Fjord Hike/Bike Trail Project
The Hudson Fjord Hike/Bike Trail is a proposed path for bicycle and foot traffic along New York's Route 9D between Little Stony Point in Cold Spring and Breakneck Ridge in Beacon. The trail will provide safe passage for hikers and bicyclists and facilitate access by foot, bicycle, train and auto to the Hudson River, to nearby popular hiking trails, and to the village of Cold Spring and the city of Beacon. The trail is intended to transform this stretch of Route 9D from a hazardous high-speed roadway into a parkway more conducive to its shared usage.
The initiative began in 2007 with a feasibility study funded by the Philipstown Greenway Committee.
In March 2012, area leaders joined together and expressed their support of the project in a letter to New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald. The letter was sent by Scenic Hudson and signed by Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell, Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro, Town of Philipstown Supervisor Richard Shea, Village of Cold Spring Mayor Seth Gallagher, Town of Fishkill Supervisor Bob LaColla, and City of Beacon Mayor Randy Casale.
In June 2012, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer endorsed the project.
Scenic Hudson is now applying for New York State grants.
